[ Bhattacharya's School of Universal Music is run by a non-profit society, registered under Government of West Bengal, India society act 1961. ]

Debashish Bhattacharya - a successful artiste, composer, teacher, performer - a complete musician, has a cherished dream. His ultimate goal is to send the message of universal music in every nook and corner of this global village. The International school of music is the institution, which is teaching A B C of Indian classical music and also has taken the following work plans for next six years to fulfill his dream.

In India, there is no syllabus available, which is specially written for the training of Indian classical Guitar. Recognizing the abundance of talent in India, Debashish has written a syllabus, the first of its kind, on Indian Classical Guitar. The syllabus has six grades.

The success of this syllabus has already been demonstrated by many of his students. Three of them have received National Scholarships of Music and three others, as 'A' grade artistes of Prasar Bharati, are performing classical Guitar from different parts of India. One of them has won national music competition award. Students from abroad have also benefited as a result of the syllabus.

Debashish also provides stage opportunities to the talented young musicians through his Music Circle 'SWAR-O-SHRUTI' which is being funded by a non-profit making organization named Debashish Bhattacharya International Music Foundation. It is devoted to propagate the true essence of Indian Classical Music. There is a constant flow of students from abroad who are staying in Kolkata for a stipulated period of time with their guru and his family learning Guitar, Vocal, and Tabla and participating in different socio-music activities.

A special music-training course has been implemented with emphasis on building up musical consciousness, working towards better living through practice of Raga and kindling awareness about the spiritualism of the Raga.

The high quality training evolved by Debashish for the benefit of the universal musical society is showing encouraging results now. Rooted on the firm ground of age-old tradition, it has embraced the present generation in its loving fold to work for musically enriched future.

The two other wings of the school:

1. Voice Training: Sutapa Bhattacharya, an eminent singer, is in charge of this wing. Hundreds of Kolkattan children not only learn vocal music from her, but also follow her as their own mother and inspiration. A versatile singer, Sutapa is one of the best Gurus and know how to bring out the best out of a kid. She is an extraordinary voice trainer of the school.

2. Tabla Training: Subhasis Bhattacharya, the world-renowned tabla and percussion artiste, is in charge of this part of the school. His innovative performances and his charming personality attract many students. Subhasis takes care of the rhythm section and teaches Tabla.
